UPDATE: Two fuel tanks, including one gas and one diesel, were involved in the explosion on Monday, according to NCFD Fire Chief Brian Oliver. About 4,000 gallons of fuel was involved in the explosion. The tanks were stationary and were used for farm operations.
At least one structure was damaged and the explosion also led to a wildland fire, which remains active as of 12:42 p.m., according to Oliver, who is at the scene of the incident. Firefighters are mopping up on the structure fire and are engaging the wildland fire.
The roadway closures due to the explosion have been lifted as of 12:45 p.m., according to NCSO Public Information Officer Kiera Grogan. However, emergency responders are still working in the area and smoke is visible in the area. NCFD is investigating the cause of the fire, according to Grogan.
CASPER, Wyo. — Emergency responders are responding to reports of a possible explosion along Wyoming Highway 487 on Monday.
As of 12:25 p.m. Monday, road closures are in effect at the intersection of WYO 487 and WYO 220 and the intersection of WYO 487 and Bates Creek Road/Old Casper-Medicine Bow Highway, according to the Natrona County Sheriff’s Office. The public is asked to avoid the area.
The initial call to dispatch reported a fuel tank explosion along the highway, according to NCSO Public Information Officer Kiera Grogan. Grogan said at around 12:25 p.m. Monday that she had limited information but would provide updates as more information became available.
NCSO, the Natrona County Fire Protection District, Casper Mountain Fire Protection District and Bar Nunn Fire are responding, according to Grogan. Other agencies may also be responding.
