The Cheyenne Police Department has released further information about the abduction and recovery of a 1-year-old child.

Cheyenne PD officials say that at approximately 10:00 p.m. on April 11, 1-year-old Gregory Marks was recovered by the Aurora Police Department at a private residence in Aurora, Colorado.

Marks was allegedly abducted from Cheyenne, earlier Thursday, by his Marks’ mother’s boyfriend. The suspect was identified as Mijito Johnson, 26, of Cheyenne.

Johnson is accused of striking Marks’ pregnant mother multiple times, before taking Marks from her custody and fleeing to a family member’s house in Colorado.

An Amber Alert was issued in Wyoming, Colorado, Kansas, Arizona, New Mexico and Oklahoma, prompting a multi-state search for the abducted child.

Officers with the Aurora Police Department found Johnson’s vehicle abandoned in a parking lot and located him a short distance away at his family’s residence.

Cheyenne PD says that Johnson remains in police custody in Colorado and a warrant has been issued for his extradition to Wyoming for interference with child custody and two counts of aggravated assault against a
pregnant woman.

All of those cited or arrested are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law. Charges are subject to change following official filings from the Laramie County District Attorney’s Office.
