CASPER, Wyo. — The Community Recreation Foundation announced that the 24th Annual Kid’s Fishing Day will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 1 at Yesness Pond.

June 1 is also the Wyoming Game and Fish Department’s free fishing day, according to the release. Anyone can fish without a license.

North Platte Walleyes Unlimited of Casper say they’ll be providing more than 200 fishing poles and tackle for participants.

“‘The fishing gear is given away to introduce kids to the excitement of catching fish and without the North Platte poles and other group’s volunteers the event would not be as successful,'” the release quotes Community Recreation Foundation organizer Blu McGrath.

The event is free for kids 14 and under, and they need to be accompanied by parents or guardians. Registration starts at 9 a.m. and goodie bags will be given away.

“Due to the popularity of this event and limited space, families with last name’s beginning with the letter A through M fish from 9 am to 12:00 pm and families with last names beginning with the letter N through Z fish from 12:00 to 3:00 pm,” the Community Recreation Foundation wrote.

Yesness will be stocked with more than “1,500 catchable sized trout,” the release adds.

“Catfish will also be stocked in the pond this year. If possible, participants should bring their own poles and lures/bait.”

Sportsman’s Warehouse will provide bait at the event.

“Please dress appropriately for the weather conditions,” the release adds. “Parking spaces are limited; overflow parking can be found at Crest Hill Elementary School located at 4445 S. Poplar.”

Yesness Pond is located at 4100 South West Wyoming Boulevard, across from Blue Ridge Coffee.

“The Fishing Day is sponsored by the Community Recreation Foundation, in cooperation with, the Wyoming Game and Fish Department, North Platte Walleyes Unlimited, Wyoming Fly Casters, Trout Unlimited, Sportsman’s Warehouse and Wagner’s Sporting Goods,” the release adds.
