CASPER, Wyo. — The Casper Police Department says that the majority of liquor establishments visited during a recent alcohol compliance check passed the examination.

Approximately 65 establishments passed the compliance check, which will award the establishments a certificate from Mercer Family Resources and a gift card for the bartender, server, or sales clerk.

Casper Police Department spokesperson Rebekah Ladd says that the department receives grant money for the alcohol compliance enforcement, and that the gift cards provided to the bartenders are paid for with that money.

Only 6 establishments were listed as not passing. CPD says that some of the establishments have passed the checks in the past.

Ladd goes on to explain that individuals under 21 are selected to enter liquor establishments within the city, where they attempt to buy alcohol.

“We’re not deceptive, all we’re trying to get at is having the bartender ask for an ID,” Ladd says. If asked for an ID, the undercover buyer presents a real ID showing their authentic age.

“What we’re looking for, is the bartender going to look at that ID and calculate the correct age or not,” Ladd says. “If they ask for the ID at all.”

Servers in establishments failing the compliance checks are issued appropriate citations.
