CASPER, Wyo. — The new Clarion Inn at Platte River is expected to open this summer in Casper.

Work is underway to renovate the former Parkway Plaza Hotel and Convention Center.

The presence of that business will fill the need for conference and convention space in Casper, Amoco Reuse Agreement Joint Powers Board Executive Director Renee Hahn thinks.

During the Wednesday, June 12 ARAJPB meeting, Hahn said that the idea to bring a convention center to the Platte River Commons would be put on hold.

Hahn told Oil City she thinks the Clarion Inn would fill the demand for conference space in Casper, and ARAJPB wouldn’t be looking to bring additional space with that project moving forward.

The Clarion Inn at Platte River’s general manager Tabitha Overgard has said that 198 renovated rooms in the main building will open along with the convention and banquet areas.

The former Parkway Plaza has 42,000 square feet of conference and convention space, the largest in Casper.

The Old Town Putt Put Golf Course will also be reopened, according to Overgard.

The Parkway Plaza closed in October 2018.

An exact date for the opening of the Clarion Inn at Platte River has not been announced.
