CASPER, Wyo. — The Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Wyoming want to celebrate kids who spent time reading this summer.

They’ll host a party for children who read for at least ten hours during their time at the club this summer. That party is hosted by McDonald’s and begins at 11 am Tuesday, Aug. 13 at Washington Park.

“Members at all Casper and Glenrock Club sites were encouraged to read at least 20 minutes a day and received incentives each time they reached a two-hour milestone,” the Boys and Girls Clubs said on Monday. “So far, 722 members have read 2,700 hours and earned more than 1,000 prizes.”

Those kids who read over the summer will also see benefits in school.

“According to the Wyoming Department of Education, ‘when students read during the summer, even as few as 4 to 5 books, they tend not to experience summer slide,'” the announcement adds.

“Summer vacation can break the routine of regular instruction which can lead children to forget and require catch up and review once school starts again.”
