CASPER, Wyo. — This summer’s “Oil City Street Slam” 3×3 basketball tournament took place on the streets of downtown Casper in June.
Visit Casper will not be renewing their contract with the company “World Events” to bring the tournament back in 2020.
“The primary reason is cost,” Visit Casper CEO Brook Kaufman said in her September CEO report.

During the Natrona County Travel & Tourism Council’s Tuesday, Sept. 24 meeting, Kaufman said that it cost Visit Casper approximately $30,000 to put on the event.
“Every year the number of teams has gone down,” she added. “It’s not a huge economic generator for us.”
Visit Casper has worked with World Events for the last three years to organize the tournament.
Kaufman said that the tournament didn’t bring a lot of people in from out of town. Visit Casper is funded by the lodging tax and works to promote Casper as a tourist destination.
