CASPER, Wyo. — John Barnhill was reported missing on Sept. 10.

The Natrona County Sheriff’s Office have been searching within a six-mile radius of Sheepherder Hill near Muddy Mountain where Barnhill’s truck was found.

Weather conditions are now impacting the NCSO’s search.

“We can’t search in these conditions,” Investigator Taylor Courtney said on Thursday, Oct. 10.

He pointed to safety concerns for those involved in the search. Snow cover in the area also makes the task more difficult, according to Courtney.

NCSO will continue searching for Barnhill when weather permits. Courtney says that they are not ruling any possibilities out, including that Barnhill may be deceased.

“We certainly want to find him alive,” he added.

He says that the search radius includes almost all of Casper and Muddy Mountains. Moving forward, a smaller number of people may be out searching and NCSO will target their efforts to specific areas that haven’t been searched.

Courtney encourages land owners, particularly those with cabins in the Crimson Dawn area or near East End Road, to check whether there has been any sign of entry to their properties if they have the ability to do so.

He said that any information landowners or hunters in the area could provide may help NCSO narrow the scope of their search.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of John Barnhill are asked to contact the Natrona County Sheriff’s Office at (307) 235-9282.
