On 35th anniversary, Kathy Sullivan recalls historic spacewalk (VIDEO)

CASPER, Wyo. — On Oct. 11 1984, Kathy Sullivan became the first female American astronaut to walk in space.

35 years later, NASA is celebrating her historic achievement.

“As the first American woman to walk in space, Kathy Sullivan laid the groundwork for many others to follow in her footsteps,” NASA said via Facebook.

NASA is also planning to send the first woman to the Moon by 2024 with their Artemis program.
