Zone change for new Casper senior rental housing takes step ahead

(City of Casper)

CASPER, Wyo. —The Casper City Council is considering a zone change to allow a new senior citizen rental housing project to move forward.

The council approved the zone change on second reading during their Tuesday, Nov. 5 meeting. They’ll need to pass the change on one further reading before it becomes final.

A company known as “Housing Solutions” plans to construct a three-story apartment building for seniors 55 and up in Casper.

The development would be called Meadowlark Vista and would be located near Southwest Wyoming Boulevard and Coffman Avenue.

“Similar to Raven Crest, which is located just down the road, this will be financed with federal housing tax credits awarded by the Wyoming Community Development Authority,” an explanation from the company provided to the City of Casper says.

“Meadowlark Vista will have 34 one-bedroom homes and 15 two-bedroom homes. All homes will be served by an elevator, making all apartments zero step entry.”

A community room, library, exercise room and pool and billiards space are part of the proposal.

The company has constructed 17 similar projects in Wyoming, Montana and North Dakota.

The Casper City Council is considering the zoning change for a 1.65 acre parcel. It will be rezoned from PUD (Planned Unit Development) to C-2 (General Business).
