CASPER, Wyo. — Purchasing two new motorcycles for the Casper Police Department will cost the city $27,665.50.

The “2019 Honda CRF 1000LK Africa Twin Manual Shift” motorcycles will be purchased from Casper Mountain Motorsports.

That will bring the Casper PD’s motorcycle fleet to four bikes. They already own two Harley Davidson police motorcycles, according to a memo in the city council’s work packet.

The Harley Davidson motorcycles have had issues with overheating and “premature clutch wear.”

They will be kept for use in public events such as parades.

Three officers have the training needed to ride the motorcycles within the department.

Optional One Cent Sales Tax funding will be used for the purchase.

The city council authorized the purchase during their Tuesday, Nov. 19 meeting.
