CASPER, Wyo. — The Cody Police Department is investigating the death of a man who allegedly shot his girlfriend in the head on Monday, Jan. 6.
The woman who was allegedly shot in the head by the 76 year old man was transported to the Cody Regional Health Emergency Room “with non-life-threatening injuries,” according to a Cody police press release.
Officers first responded to a report of a female with a gunshot wound at about 3:29 pm to the Rodeo West Gas Station at 130 Yellowstone Avenue in Cody.
“Upon their arrival officers made contact with a 44 [year old] female who was bleeding with a head injury,” the release states. “The female told officers she was shot in the head by her 76 [year old] boyfriend during an argument in their camper, which was located in the RV Park behind the gas station.”
“The female was able to leave the camper and sought help at the gas station.”
The man reportedly followed the woman to the gas station, but returned to the RV Park camper when law enforcement arrived.
After the woman was transported to the emergency room, officers responded to the camper.
“As they approached, an officer heard what sounded like a single gunshot coming from inside the camper,” the release states. “Officers and Park County Sheriff’s Deputies secured the immediate area and the Cody Police Tactical Response Team were called to respond.”
After making multiple attempts to contact the man, a “specialized robot” was deployed with help from the Cody Bomb Team into the camper.
“[I]t was discovered the male suspect was deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound,” the release states. “This case is still under investigation and no further information is available at this time.”
The man’s name was not included in the press release.
