CASPER, Wyo – The Paradise Valley Elementary fifth-grade students performed a play titled “The Clever Rat” in celebration of the Chinese lunar New Year on Thursday morning.
The play was performed entirely in the Chinese Mandarin language, which students in the Dual Language Immersion (DLI) program are studying. Traditional fifth-grade students also participated.
After the play, DLI students then performed an additional set of songs and dance, which included a traditional large Chinese dragon puppet.

The DLI class and music director Nathan Gurtler organizes the performances, which take place each year.
Fourth-graders will perform the play on Friday evening at the Nicolaysen Art Museum, followed by music and dance by the entire student body. Funds raised from the public performance will go towards sending the DLI students to field trip in China next year.
