Casper offering summer fitness, cooking and science classes for kids and adults

CASPER, Wyo. — The Casper Recreation Division announced several more classes on Wednesday, June 24 that will be offered at the Casper Recreation Center in addition to the various sports, dance and art activities planned for the summer.

The newly announced classes will begin in July and include opportunities for both children and adults.

“A new session of Morning RIP for adults will run on Wednesday & Friday from 9:00-10:00 a.m. beginning July 8,” the Casper Recreation Division said. “RIP is a 60-minute barbell program for all ages. Matching movement to music and using traditional strength training allows participants to work at their own level while toning muscles and burning calories.”

A “Cooking with Teens” class geared toward ages 13-17 will meet from 5:45-7 pm on Mondays.  

Teens will learn culinary fundamentals such as safety and sanitation, measuring, and chopping,” the announcement states. “Each student will take home a sample of their creations and copies of recipes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner meals, desserts and snacks.”

The Casper Recreation Division will also offer a new “Science Lab” class for ages 8-12. That will begin on Wednesday, July 29 and will meet weekly from 5:45-7:15 pm.

“Each week students will create unique and exciting experiments as they dive into the wonderful world of science while developing the tools needed to approach experiments with a problem-solving mindset,” the announcement explains.

The Casper Recreation Division say that the Rec Center is following COVID-19 safety guidelines.

“Our staff will be cleaning areas after each use as well as supplying hand sanitizer for good hand hygiene,” the division said. “Class size will be limited, and students will be expected to keep their distance from other students and teachers. There will also be marks on the floor for fitness and dance classes for easy distancing.”
