CASPER, Wyo — The Bureau of Land Management Wyoming said Saturday that crews are have achieved 90% containment on the Richard Mountain fire during operations on Saturday. On Sunday the BLM said a local Type 4 emergency management team is preparing to take over operations.
The Richard Mountain fire began August 3 from as-yet unknown causes and about 50 miles south of Rock Springs. Some resources are now being diverted to the Bradley Fire near the Seminoe Reservoir, which began Friday, August 7.
Improved aerial mapping Saturday led the BLM to estimate that the fire has burned 7,633 acres.

The closures along Browns Park Road and the “B” portion of the Green River between the Little Hole and Indian Crossing boat ramps have been lifted. Motorists traveling along Browns Park Road are being asked to drive slowly and be aware that firefighting equipment and personnel are still present in the area.
The temporary closure along Clay Basin Road remains in effect but should be lifted 4:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon. The Richard Mountain Fire began at approximately 2 p.m. on August 3, 2020 and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
