CASPER, Wyo– The driver who lead law enforcement agencies in a pursuit Monday in Rock Springs died by self-inflicted gunshot wound, Rock Springs police said Friday.
According to law enforcement, the Department of Criminal Investigation Southwest Enforcement Team was attempting to execute a search warrant for child exploitation on Josiah Griffith, 24.
RSPD officers, the International Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office, and the Wyoming Highway Patrol responded to West Fifth Avenue around 4:10 p.m Monday in the pursuit of Griffith, who eluded officers in an SUV.

The pursuit ended after Griffith rolled his SUV down an embankment and came to a stop. Law enforcement officers moved towards the vehicle after Griffith failed to comply with numerous commands to exit, Rock Springs police said.
“Officers approached the vehicle and it was discovered he was deceased. During the investigation, Rock Springs Police Department detectives determined that no gunshots were fired by any law enforcement agencies during this incident.”
Griffith’s death was determined to be a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
