Science Zone offering ‘In-Tents’ camping, kayaking experiences along with 15+ kids’ summer camps

CASPER, Wyo. — The Science Zone has a jam packed schedule of summer camps and opportunities for kids in the Casper area this summer.

Local musician Chad Lore will help kick off the first of over 15 summer camps at the Science Zone this summer, leading a “Lets Make Some Noise!” camp from June 14-18.

“We will join forces with local musician extroadinare, Chad Lore, while we investigate the properties of sound and make noise by creating all sorts of instruments,” the Science Zone says. “This camp includes a bonus session on juggling (because it is connected to music!).”

In addition to the 15+ camps throughout the summer, the Science Zone is also offering three outdoor adventure camps, with the first set to be an “In-Tents” camping and kayaking experience.

“Our first outdoor adventure camp will take place from June 21 through June 25,” the Science Zone says. “Campers will leave Casper on Monday morning, travel to the Wind River Canyon for a guided kayaking/geology experience then will travel to Medicine Lodge for petroglyph viewing, camp in Tensleep Canyon where we will hike, fish, and experience rock climbing with a guide.”

“Participants will spend their days exploring. learning and having fun, their evenings at a campfire near the river, and their nights in tents.”

The “In-Tents” camping experience is for 11-15 year-olds with registration available at thesciencezone.org: “Call 307-473-9663 for more information. Scholarships are made possible with the support of Wyoming Child Support Program.”

In addition to the camps, the Science Zone is offering “Idea Lab Summer” events from 9:30 am through 12 pm each Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. These activities are for students in 6-12 grade.

The Science Zone says that participants will:

  • Spend time outdoors and learn about the many careers available
  • Learn about the Platte River while floating it, swimming in it and fishing on it
  • Create a video masterpiece under the direction of an expert
  • Get prepared for that first job interview in a special 5 day workshop with Impact Wyoming
  • Play Dungeons and Dragons
  • Visit the University of Wyoming and Wyo Tech
