CASPER, Wyo. — The Bureau of Land Management Wyoming said on Friday that the Worland Field Office recently hosted its first “Bird and Bat Stroll.”
Citizens who attended the event at the Wyoming Game and Fish Department’s Wigwam Rearing Station were given the opportunity to use detectors equipped with ultrasonic microphones.
These detectors are able to pick up on high frequency bat calls used for echolocation. BLM Wyoming said that attendees were able to identify the following species of bats during the event:

- Big brown bat
- Silver-haired bat
- Hoary bat
- Western small-footed myotis
“We also saw several species of birds including common nighthawk, great blue heron and western tanager,” BLM Wyoming. “Thank you to Wyoming Game and Fish Department Wigwam Rearing Station for letting us host the walk after hours.”
