CASPER Wyo. — Federal fire managers have reported 51% containment on Sand Creek Fire west of Lander on the eastern slopes of the Wind River mountains.
“High winds today will test the fire, but increased humidity tonight should allow continued efforts at containment,” Saturday’s InciWeb update stated.
Logistically, the camp at Dickenson Park will be downsized and command will be handed over to a Type 4 team on Sunday morning. Two helicopters will continue support with buckets as needed if the wind allows.

“These helicopters will also be available to assist in initial attack as they did [Friday] with a new fire by Dubois.”
All crews worked Friday to rehabilitate fire lines and take steps to prevent erosion. Crews also removed structure protection equipment installed at the beginning of the fire, which started Thursday September 9, and grew exponentially the following night in strong thunderstorm winds, and is currently listed at 907 acres.
The cause is unknown.
