Western mountains could get over 6 inches of snow through Saturday; storms likely in Casper Friday

CASPER, Wyo. — Well over 6 inches of snowfall is possible Friday night through Saturday in the the higher portions of the Wind River, Bighorn, Absaroka, and Teton ranges, said the National Weather Service (NWS) in Riverton.

This front will bring widespread showers and isolated thunderstorms across central and western Wyoming, spreading east of the Continental Divide Friday afternoon and evening. There is a 60% chance of precipitation in Casper by Friday night.

2- to 4-inch snowfall totals are expected for the backcountry and elevations of 8500-9000 feet. 1-3 inches are possible in Yellowstone National Park.

“People planning outdoor activities should be prepared for cold and snowy weather,” the NWS said.
