Weekend events and music: Gun show, craft fairs, Conwell Park holiday tree lighting

CASPER, Wyo. — With the Christmas tree up at David Street Station and Conwell Park lighting up on Sunday, it’s officially the holiday season in the Oil City. It’s time for craft fairs and calorie-rich celebrations. It’s also as good a time as any for a gun show.

Events

Up in Arms Gun Show

  • Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, November 19-21
  • Central Wyoming Fair Industrial Building (1700 Fairgrounds Road)
  • Weekend admission: $6 (12 and under free)

Trails Center: “A Pioneer’s Vision Realized” and “The Bison Supermarket”

Trails Center interpreter Reid Miller’s presentation at 1:00 p.m. will feature key figures in the movement to commemorate westward migration across the continent in the mid-1800s.

The youth-oriented (all ages invited) presentation at 10:00 a.m. Saturday will focus on why bison are comparable to a modern supermarket to the Plains Indians.

Conwell Park Holiday Tree Lighting

  • Healing Park on Conwell across from WMC (120 S. Conwell St.)

Kick off the holiday season with the lighting event. There will be free hot cocoa and cookies (while supplies last). Be there 10 minutes before 5:00 p.m. to ensure you catch the key lighting moment.

Santa, Mrs. Claus, the Snow Queen, and the Ice Princess will be available for individual and group photos, albeit inside a magical snow globe in deference to COVID-19. Christmas lists bound for the North Pole can be safely dropped off at the event.

People can also pre-burn holiday calories with the Reindeer Relay 5K at 4:00 p.m.

Booze and Bacon Festival

“Bacon-filled dishes from a variety of local restaurants and samples of beer and liquor from national and local reps. All samples are included with admission,” event organizers state.

A portion of the proceeds will benefit Joshua’s Storehouse Youth Program.

Organizers insist that responsible travel arrangements be made for those consuming alcohol. The Ford Wyoming Center has a designated Uber pick-up and drop-off point at the circle outside of the SinclairTix Box Office. Venue staff will also be available to aid with contacting local cabs and assisting patrons to get home safely.

Cascade Christmas Craft Fair

VFW Holiday Craft Fair

VFW 9439 will be holding their 12th annual Holiday Craft Fair on Friday and Saturday, November 19-20.

Stillhouse Junkies

The band plays “a delirious, head-spinning mixture of original roots, blues, funk, swing, and bluegrass music.”

Christian Wallowing Bull, Aquile, and Zack Schommer

Christian Wallowing Bull, winner of the 2021 Wyoming singer-songwriter competition, will join Wyoming native and “The Voice Season 3” contestant Aquile and Zack Schommer.

Those who participate in donating canned food will be entered into a raffle. The event will be filmed, “so we ask that audience members dress to impress,” organizers said.
