Thanksgiving week events guide: ice skating, Christmas parade, tree lighting, two-day local artists’ sale, live music

CASPER, Wyo. — It’s officially the holiday season! Unlike in some years past, the weather forecast looks kind for those gathering outdoors this weekend for staple events like the Christmas Parade and David Street Station tree lighting ceremony.

There will also be a two-day holiday art sale featuring the unique work of local artists, so you can double the holiday cheer in the community as you mark off your shopping list.

And don’t forget to shop local on Small Business Saturday. Downtown businesses like will be participating in a window decorating contest, and you can fuel up for the festivities at local restaurants.

David Street Ice Rink opening day

The rink will open for skaters Friday, November 26 from noon – 9:00 p.m. Regular season hours and more information are available here.

Admission Costs:

  • $6.00 – Adults (13 and over)
  • $5.00 – Youth (12 and under)
  • $3.00 – Toddlers (4 and under)
  • $3.00 – Ice Skate Rentals

David Street Station Christmas Tree Lighting

Saturday November 27 at 6:00 p.m., just ahead of the Christmas parade starting at 6:45 p.m. This year’s tree was donated by a family on Glendale Street, where its roots had been spreading into sewer lines and the house’s foundation.

Christmas Parade

The annual Christmas Parade will begin at David Street Station at 6:45 p.m. Saturday, November 27. The event will last until 9:00 p.m. The theme of this years parade is “Christmas at the Movies”.

The route proceeds east on 2nd Street, ending at the intersection of South Beech and Second Street (by the Skyline Towers)

There are reserved areas for citizens with disabilities.

Holiday Art Sale

Double the holiday-giving spirit when you give the gift of local art! Sanctuary Pottery Studio and the Casper Artists’ Collective are hosting the first-ever Holiday Art Sale Friday and Saturday, November 26-27.

“There will be a variety of artists in all mediums, so you are sure to find something for everyone on your list,” the event posting states. “Grab your family and friends to support Casper’s local arts scene during this two-day art extravaganza!”

A cash bar will be provided Backwards Distillery.

Small Business Saturday

Downtown businesses like Toy Town, Donnells, Cadillac Cowgirl, Fashion Crossroads, FC Outlet and Rubenesque will be participating in a window decorating contest. You can vote for your favorite window on this Facebook page or at Santa’s Workshop downtown.

“Shop the local stores and eat at the local restaurants and then stay for the annual Christmas parade! It’s a fun-filled family day!” organizers said.
