CASPER, Wyo. — With Wyoming Superintendent Jillian Balow announcing her resignation Thursday in order to accept a position as Virginia’s superintendent, Wyoming Department of Education Chief Policy Educator Kari Eakins will serve as interim state superintendent.

Balow said on Thursday that Eakins will serve until the Wyoming Republican Party and Governor Mark Gordon appoint someone to the position of superintendent following the statutorily prescribed process.

Superintendent is an elected position in Wyoming and voters will be asked to select a new superintendent in the 2022 elections. The candidate filing deadline is May 27, 2022.

The primary election is scheduled for Aug. 16, 2022 and the general election will be held on Nov. 8, 2022.
