CASPER, Wyo. — The Bourgeois Pig coffee shop will celebrate the third anniversary of its downtown Casper location with three days of events this weekend.
The PiggyPalooza weekend includes the Bad Poetry Slam (O-Rama), live music, and a reception for the new Alley Gallery Installation by model photographer Doug Tunison.
Friday, April 8 will be opening reception for the “Lightly Clothed” installation in the Alley Gallery. The reception begins at 7 p.m. with crackers and cheese, and a disco party will commence at 9. (Period dress is encouraged.)
There will be live music all day Saturday, April 9 (operating hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.). Probable acts so far include Cryptid Encounter, Sylance, and Blake Bone. Others will be added throughout the week.
The Bad Poetry Slam will begin Sunday at 5 p.m., to be judged by local professionals of letters.
“I’m not sure we can put any kind of box around this one,” said owner Josh Tinnell. In his opinion, poetry that aims to be bad would be ”just as legitimate” as the kind that was composed in earnest, but the decision will rest with the judges. Cash and gag prizes await the winners.
Tinnell said the coffee shop traditionally celebrates its anniversary with events, even though the second was undermined by the pandemic two years ago. Tinnell said every time he’s been ready to throw in the towel, someone’s come through for him, whether it be his generous landlord or a community benefactor.
“It survived COVID and it survived all the ups and downs because there are enough people around here that wanted it to.”
