CASPER, Wyo. — Cameron Burkett, his family, and his friends met Monday, May 2 in the Kelly Walsh High School Team Room to celebrate his signing of a letter of intent.

After years of playing football and participating in track and field, Burkett signed with the University of Wyoming to compete in throwing events.

Burkett says that he decided that track was where his passion was, even though he enjoyed playing football.

One of the main reasons he chose UW over the many other schools (including a full ride to Chadron State College) was how close it was to his family and home. He says that he liked the idea of staying in Wyoming.

Burkett says the most exciting thing about becoming a Cowboy is “being close enough to drive home so my mom can do my laundry.”

As the season is coming to a close, the young athlete is hopeful to keep increasing his numbers and is more excited to start on this new journey in the fall as a UW Cowboy.
