CASPER, Wyo. — On May 5, Rachel Evenson, a member of the Kelly Walsh High School Dance Team, signed her letter of intent and committed to the University of Wyoming for cheerleading.
“It just started as an idea, in a tumbling class. … I went down to Laramie and I made the team,” Evenson said. She likes that Laramie is close to home and that cheering will still give her the opportunity to be a part of school events and to meet new people.
Evenson is also excited because cheer, while being different, is still a lot like dance. While in college, she is planning to study pre-med.
She says that she has been dancing for 16 years of her life on various teams. “It has gotten me ready physically, and being on different teams … have all prepared me to be an athlete and pitched into being ready for cheer,” Evenson said.
