I-80 in Rock Springs to see nighttime closures for overhead sign work

CASPER, Wyo. — A section of Interstate 80 in Rock Springs will see some nighttime closures from July 18 to July 20 due to overhead sign work, according to the Wyoming Department of Transportation.

WYDOT and Reiman & High Country Construction crews will be working on completing overhead sign work at three locations near milepost 101 as part of an interchange road project in Rock Springs. Work will happen on I-80 from midnight to 4 a.m. between Exit 99 and Exit 102 from July 18 though July 20.

“Closure of the interstate will roughly last one hour starting at 12 a.m. before reopening the area to traffic,” WYDOT said. “Drivers are asked to avoid the area during these times or plan ahead accordingly for the delays.”

The project is a partnership between WYDOT, the City of Rock Springs and Sweetwater County to construct a new interchange and reconstruct and expand the interchange from Foothill Boulevard south to Blairtown Road. The overall project is expected to be complete by June 30, 2023. Funding for the work includes $14 million from the federal Infrastructure for Rebuilding America grant. The total project cost is about $30 million.

“WYDOT would like to remind drivers to slow down in work zones, be alert and cautious of roadside workers and obey all traffic control devices,” the release said. “For more information on road construction, closures and weather conditions, please visit http://www.wyoroad.info.”
