CASPER, Wyo. — The Natrona County School District said on social media this morning that it is working with local law enforcement with summer school programs due to a “law enforcement situation” in the area.

“We are working in the district with [the Natrona County Sheriff’s Office] and [Casper Police Department] regarding the public safety alert information they shared,” said Natrona County School District spokesperson Tanya Southerland in a text message to Oil City News. “Schools and buildings are on a heightened awareness as a precautionary safety measure in relation to that.”

Earlier this morning, the Natrona County Sheriff’s Office issued a public safety alert for a person of interest involved in a double homicide in Natrona County.

The notice follows:

8-10-22, NCSD is working in collaboration with local law enforcement to have controlled access and heightened awareness at all NCSD schools and buildings due to a law enforcement situation in the greater Casper community. There will be limited outdoor summer school activities. Summer school activities will occur as normal inside the building. Please, as always, report any suspicious persons or activity to local law enforcement.
