CASPER, Wyo. — On Monday, Shawn Johnson announced his resignation from his Casper City Council Ward 2 seat, citing a move outside the ward’s boundaries.

The resignation is effective immediately, according to the announcement.

Johnson said he was unable to find suitable housing for his family inside the ward’s boundaries. State law requires councilmembers to live within the boundaries of their wards.

In his resignation announcement, Johnson said he knew the move was coming and he wasn’t sure if he could find a home within Ward 2. He said he has a long history and passion for serving his community, but because of the uncertainty of the move, he opted against running for reelection to the Casper City Council.

Instead, he’s opted to run for a seat on the Natrona County Commission.

Johnson said he wanted to thank voters for their faith in him for the last seven and a half years and to thank city staff for their hard work.
