CASPER, Wyo. — The Windy City Striders’ annual Turkey Trot will be held this Thursday on the Platte River Trails in Casper. Walkers, runners, and strollers of all abilities are invited to build up a Thanksgiving appetite and help furnish local food banks with much-needed necessities.

Registration for the 5K can be found here or beginning at 8 a.m. at the Tate Pumphouse,1775 W. 1st St., on Thanksgiving Day. The race starts at 9 a.m.

Non-perishable food items, monetary donations, and other household staples serve as the registration fee. Poverty Resistance, Joshua’s Storehouse, the Humane Society and other local food banks will be the beneficiaries.

Personal care items, hand soap, cleaning supplies, toilet paper, and kitty litter are among the high-demand items in households. The beneficiaries can even make use of your household surplus of plastic grocery bags, according to the event posting.

Turkey Day should bring sunny skies with a high of 34 degrees and gentle breezes — 8 to 13 mph winds with gusts of up to 20 mph — according to the National Weather Service in Riverton. There may be a fresh dusting of snow from the night before.
