S’no problem: C/NCIA crews use big machines to keep planes moving during snow event

CASPER, Wyo. — It takes a lot of effort and horsepower to keep Mother Nature in check at local airports.

On Monday, the Casper/Natrona County International Airport posted a photo on social media showing off some of that horsepower and effort as their crews worked to clear deep drifted snow from the airport grounds.

“This is why our snow blower is bigger than yours,” the post said.

The post earned a playful photo response in the comments section to the C/NCIA from the Southwest Wyoming Regional Airport in Rock Springs that also said, “This is why our snow blower is bigger than yours.”

Among the “bigger-than-yours” snow removing equipment at the airport are a $603,000 MB plow/broom combo and a $673,000 snow-eating plow/blower vehicle, according to a 2017 K2 story. The equipment is housed in a purpose-built 27,000-square-foot building that opened in 2017.

Over the weekend, at least a foot of snow fell in lower elevations around Natrona County. Winds kicked up sizable drifts, particularly outside the city.

“Unlike other years, [the snow] doesn’t melt before the next storm,” said the C/NCIA in its Facebook post comments section.
