CASPER, Wyo. — A concert on Tuesday night will celebrate the talent of some 50 Casper-area student string musicians.

The performance, featuring Kelly Walsh High School and Natrona County High School chamber orchestras performing with the Casper College Chamber Orchestra in the Wheeler Concert Hall at Casper College, is free to the public, according to a press release from Casper College.

Various works will be performed, including the Wyoming premiere of “Four Future Memories” by contemporary composer Stephanie Ann Boyd, and feature all three orchestras together under the direction of Casper College Chamber Orchestra Director Jennifer DePaolo. The work was commissioned by youth ensembles from all over the U.S. as part of the 50 State String Orchestra Project, according to the release.

Boyd’s attachment to Wyoming began when she was asked to write the first-ever original composition for the Wyoming Symphony Orchestra, which received its world premiere last year.

“With ‘Four Future Memories,’ I’ve merged three worlds I love so much: the worlds of literature, of music, and of time in my own way, creating a set of short stories for string orchestra about the memories we may have someday in the distant future,” said Boyd in the release.

Other pieces include works by Vivaldi, Glazunov and Biber.

The free concert will take place on Tuesday, March 7 starting at 7 p.m. at the Wheeler Concert Hall inside the Music Building at Casper College.
