CASPER, Wyo. — The Wyoming Game and Fish Department, with support from the Safari Club International Foundation and the Western Bear Foundation, will be giving free bear spray to hunters and anglers at the Teton County Fairgrounds on Tuesday, September 7.
100 cans of bear spray will be given to people who hold a current Wyoming hunting or fishing license. The bear spray will be distributed on a first-come-first-serve basis.
“Bear spray is an effective deterrent in an aggressive bear encounter and we hope this effort continues to raise awareness and remind those recreating in bear country to be prepared and stay safe,” Game and Fish Large Carnivore Biologist Mike Boyce said.

The bear spray giveaway will begin at 8 a.m. Tuesday, September 7 in the east parking lot of the Teton County Fairgrounds, located at 305 West Snow King Ave. in Jackson.
Volunteers will hand out the bear spray to hunters and anglers who drive up to the designated area.
“This is a great opportunity for Game and Fish to promote safety as many hunters and anglers prepare for the fall season in the backcountry,” Boyce said.
The bear spray was purchased using donations from the Safari Club International Foundation.
