A vintage photograph shows two children sitting on the old courthouse steps in the early 1900s decked out for Halloween.
It can be assumed that before the age of plastic masks at Walmart that these pumpkins were homemade by crafty people, but how they were made is mysterious. Paper Mache? Clay? Or perhaps they actually are real pumpkins that were covered and painted.
The picture is in the collection at the Western History Center at Casper College. Oil City will be digging for more mysterious images from Casper’s past this month.
