Two Casper Police officers were honored on Monday evening at David Street Station.
Officers Jacob Carlson and Randi Garrett both received medals of valor, the highest for a police officer. Officer Carlson also received a Purple Heart.
Officer Carlson was nearly killed during a shootout last May. Officer Garrett was on patrol with him at the time and is credited with firing the fatal shot that stopped the assailant.

During the ceremony, Police Chief Keith McPheeters also gave credit to first responders and the Wyoming Medical Center for saving Carlson, who was struck multiple times during the shooting and underwent multiple life-saving procedures.
It was the first public appearance by officer Carlson after the shooting.
