There’s a sadness that contrasts against the bright balloons, costumes and colorful party confectionary that fill the Party America store in Casper.
“We will be closing on June 30,” said Lisa Gouveia, who runs the Casper store and two in Billings with her husband Greg.
The two stores in Billings, where the Gouveias now live, will remain open.

It’s the end of a 26-year run for the party store, which originally opened in the Beverly Plaza before moving to its current location at 4336 East Second Street in the late 90s. The move roughly doubled the square footage to around 6,500, according to Gouveia.
“Rent was going up and that wasn’t going to work for me,” said Gouveia about the decision to close the location.
“We’ve kind of been off and on knowing for a couple of weeks, but nothing was for sure until recently,” she said.
The store employs six people, who all have the option of relocating to Billings.
“It’s really hard, especially people coming in and being sad,” said Gouveia, “because that makes me sad…this was my first store.”
