North Casper residents will be making a splash or to starting this Saturday when the new splash pad feature at Marion Kreiner Pool will officially open.
The new splash pad is perhaps the biggest upgrade to the pool since it first opened in 1968.
The project was first conceived in 2012, but took a temporary back seat to the new Mike Sedar Pool that opened in 2016.

Since then, Marion Kreiner was put on the front burner for an upgrade.
“It adds an exiting feature to the pool,” said Casper Recreation Division Recreation Manager Carolyn Griffith.
“Years ago, especially when that pool was built, the pools were the popular thing, but over time the pools have needed a little pizzaz added to them,” said Griffith.
Splash pads also require much less staffing and maintenance, making them a feature that can stay open for more hours and longer into the season.
The splash pad will open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week. The pool’s hours are 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
“We can keep the spray pad open long after schools reopen, even though we lose our staff to school and other situations,” said Griffith.
A grand opening ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 8. There will be refreshments and it is free to the public, according to Griffith.
