Casper to replace pump station at Municipal Golf Course for $125K

(Brittani Wert, Oil City)

CASPER, Wyo. — The Casper Municipal Golf Course will be getting a new Watertronics pump station for the Links 9-hole course and practice range after the previous system “suffered a catastropic failure” on June 3, as Parks and Recreation Director Tim Cortez explained in a memo.

The Casper City Council authorized a sole source purchase agreement with Granite Peak Pump Station, Inc. during their Tuesday, July 7 meeting for the purchase of the new pump station.

That sole source purchase agreement is for $107,945. The council also authorized $17,055 for upgrades to the building housing the pump station.

One Cent No. 16 funds authorized in the city’s fiscal year 2021 budget will pay for the project.

The previous pump station for the Links course was installed in 1995, according to the city.

Cortez previously explained to the city council during a work session that the Watertronics station is the only product compatible with the course’s Toro National Support Network. That’s why staff proposed a sole source purchase agreement rather than opening up a bid process.

While the pump station is down, the course has been able to continue watering the course using the Highland and Park Course pumps, but Cortez explained this is putting extra strain on those pumps and has required watering to occur for a longer period throughout the day which may impact golfers as they could be sprayed.

He said that without the Links Course pump working, the other pumps need to work 16 hours a day.
