CASPER, Wyo. — Timothy Hunt is a solid waste collection operator for the City of Casper. Solid Waste Division Manager Cindie Langston said at the Casper City Council’s Tuesday, Sept. 15 meeting that “little kids love big trash trucks.”

She said that Hunt moved to Casper in 2019 after working in public services for 15 tears in Florida and Alabama.

“It was our lucky day that he applied for one of our positions,” Langston added. Hunt began as working as a street sweeper but has been collecting solid waste since January.

“Timothy is incredibly cheerful and has great customer service skills,” Langston said, particularly when it comes to teaching children a little bit about the job.

“Timothy has been really great about when little kids want to talk to him and see the truck,” she said. “He will talk to them and tell them about his job.”

Councilman Ray Pacheco added that a Casper College employee showed him a photo of a two year old named Camden standing in front of his house waving at Hunt’s garbage truck.

“I was told the story of how much [Camden] loved it,” Pacheco added.

Pacheco then reached out to Camden’s mother and with the help of city staff, set up a ride-along in Hunt’s garbage truck.

“I’m sure Camden now is talking about it non-stop,” Pacheco said.

Councilman Mike Huber said that the story reminded him of his own childhood. Huber said that a man named Garrett Bell used to drive a city street sweeper when he was very young.

“We’d run along and follow him,” Huber said of himself and other kids in the neighborhood.

Huber said that Bell’s friendliness “became the basis of a very, very long term really good family relationship with him.” He added that he admires Hunt for showing kindness in a similar way.

“I truly want you to know in my heart, I thank you for that,” Huber said.

The council presented Hunt with a certificate of commendation. Pacheco read the commendation which recognized Hunt for his “outstanding efforts and customer service” and for “taking time to be friendly.”
