CASPER, Wyo. — Casper Fire-EMS responded to two minor cooking fire calls on Thanksgiving Day.

According to a release, responders were called around 3 p.m. to a fire on the 2100 block of Fontenelle in Paradise Valley for a fryer “well involved in fire” inside a garage.

Firefighters used handlines to control the fire within minutes, according to the release, before removing smoke from the garage.

The garage suffered smoke and heat damage, but no serious structural damage was found and no injuries were reported. Investigators say the fire was accidental and caused by the oil in the fryer igniting before any food was inserted. The fire was believed to have spread by application of water, said the release, reminding that chemical extinguishers should always be used for oil or grease fires.

An earlier fire call for Casper Fire-EMS involved a cooking grill on a backyard patio that ignited but was quickly controlled before spreading to any structures.
