CASPER, Wyo. — Some parents of students attending St. Anthony Tri-Parish Catholic School and Preschool expressed concerns to the city council in November about CY Discount Liquors & Backdoor Lounge moving into a new space across from the school in the former Ridley’s building.

Casper City Council member Bruce Knell said during the council’s Tuesday, December 7 meeting that he has been speaking with constituents and that the idea has been generated to convert some streets in the area to one-ways in order to alleviate some of the concerns about children’s safety.

Knell said that the idea is to convert 20th Street coming off of CY Avenue to a one-way street and to also convert HY Avenue to a one-way. That would direct any traffic that may park in the lot behind the new bar away from St. Anthony’s School. Drivers would then be able to get back onto CY Avenue by turning left off of HY Avenue onto South Boxelder Street.

“It makes great sense for the safety for those children being dropped off and picked up,” Knell said, asking that the idea be added to a council work session for consideration.

The council agreed to add the idea as an item for discussion at a future work session.
