CASPER, Wyo. — The Cheney Federal Building at 100 East B St. near downtown Casper was evacuated on Wednesday afternoon after an electrical fire in the basement.

According to a release from Casper Fire-EMS, the fire call was made around 1:30 p.m. when heavy smoke was seen coming from the basement.

The release says crews found “significant smoke” in the basement, and located the equipment that had been involved in the fire. The building was disconnected from electricity and the equipment was de-energized.

Crews searched the building for potential victims and ventilated smoke from all areas. No injuries were reported, and damages were limited to the equipment involved in the incident. Power remained off through Wednesday.

Because of the building’s size and complexity, all Casper Fire-EMS resources initially responded to the call, along with resources from the Natrona County Fire Protection District and Evansville Fire-EMS.
