CASPER, Wyo. — The Casper Police Department has been awarded a grant from the Wyoming Office of Homeland Security that it will use to purchase a new K-9, a K-9 vehicle retrofit and to help cover the dog’s training and K-9 handler needs.

The Casper City Council passed a resolution on Tuesday authorizing the acceptance of the $30,000 grant from the Wyoming Office of Homeland Security.

A memo from police department staff explains that the grant is intended “to support the investment of combating Domestic Violent Extremism to improve the Casper Police Department’s ability to prevent a threatened or an actual act of terrorism.”

The city is not required to provide a match in order to accept the grant. The grant award period will terminate on Aug. 31, 2023.

Further details are available in the city council’s work packet.
