CASPER, Wyo. — Unusually cold overnight temperatures turned a sprinkler system’s work into natural ice sculptures on Wednesday morning.

The corner south-facing landscaping at the new Thyra Thomson State Building along Collins got the wintery treatment after automatic sprinklers kicked on.

Temperatures across the state made April feel more like February, according to the National Weather Service in Riverton, which recorded overnight temperatures dipping down to the single digits in much of Wyoming.

Temperatures in the Casper area are expected to remain cold today, with a high only in the 20s expected. Tonight’s low will dip to 12 degrees, with gusty winds bringing chills of zero degrees.

Blustery winds and very cold windchill values continue tomorrow ahead of light snow in the evening. Friday should be clear with a high around 42 degrees, and Saturday’s high should reach 55 degrees with wind gusts up to 28 mph.
