CASPER, Wyo. — Family, faculty and fellow students gathered in the Kelly Walsh High School Band Room on Wednesday morning to celebrate 15 band students who are accepting music scholarships to various universities and colleges.
“Music is something you could do for a lifetime, and we are super excited that you guys are choosing to do music in college,” said KW’s Director of Bands Brent Rose as he addressed the students. “Congratulations to all involved.”
Donuts emblazoned with KWHS’s green school color were offered after the ceremony amid family photos.
Assistant Director Sarah Hanson said the number of students choosing music to further their college careers has been growing at KW for several years, and the signing day is a way to celebrate that.
“We try to make it a big deal and promote it,” she said.
“They’ve developed a skill set just like any athlete has, and to know that they can continue on doing something that they love, and get some scholarship money for it, is pretty amazing.”
