Interim CFD Chie Jacob Black (Casper Fire-EMS, Facebook)

CASPER, Wyo. — Interim Casper Fire-EMS Chief Jacob Black, a 21-year veteran of the department, will take on the role permanently, according to a City of Casper release Thursday.

The public is invited to a formal introduction ceremony Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 2:30 p.m. in the Council Meeting Room at City Hall.

Black was named interim fire chief after Thomas Solberg retired in May.

“Serving the community of Casper has always been an honor and privilege, so the opportunity to lead this exceptional organization as its fire chief is truly the blessing of a lifetime,” Black said in the release. “Our organization is filled with some of the hardest working, most professional people in the industry, and we have an outstanding support system from the city organization and our community.”

As many of the department’s senior officials are approaching retirement in the next five years, recruitment will be a top priority, Black said. To that end, he is currently working with the CFD and the city to develop strategic hiring, training and retention protocols, the release said.

“My goal is to lay the groundwork for generations to come. I want to keep moving forward with the smoothest transition possible,” Black said.
