CASPER, Wyo. — The Casper City Council is set to discuss an update to the Casper Municipal Code regarding driving under the influence at its regular council meeting on Oct. 3.

Section 10.52.030 of the Casper Municipal Code — which hasn’t been updated since 2002 — addresses driving or having control of a vehicle while under the influence of intoxicating liquor or controlled substances, according to a memo prepared for the City Council.

Staff members have recommended the council adopt a revised ordinance aligning this section with Wyoming State Statute §31-5-233.

The addition is as follows:

“Any drug or psychoactive substance, or any combination of these substances, capable of impairing a person’s physical or mental faculties.”

The council meeting will feature a public hearing and first reading on the proposed amendment, giving residents an opportunity to voice their opinions.

With City Hall under renovation, the council will meet at The Lyric, 230 W. Yellowstone Highway, at 6 p.m., preceded by a 5:30 p.m. pre-meeting. The meeting is public and will be streamed on the City of Casper’s YouTube channel.
