CASPER, Wyo. — Phase-one renovations to the Casper Family Aquatic Center are now in progress, city officials said in a release Friday.

The facility has been closed since July as crews prepared for critical maintenance on the roof, windows, slide tower, structural supports and other areas.

“Crews expect this initial phase to be completed in early 2024 with a reopen date tentatively scheduled for February,” the release said.

Aquatics Supervisor Edwin Luers said visitors will notice significant upgrades when the Aquatics Center reopens next year.

“It’s going to look and feel like a brand-new facility, especially for kids who love the slide,” he said. “Or for grownups who love the slide, too.”

Phase-two construction is scheduled to begin in June 2024 and be completed in October. That work will replace the roof and update the HVAC system and some electrical systems.

$2.8 million has been allocated by the city for renovations.

Fifth-cent funds are covering $1.8 million, and the city’s perpetual care funds and capital reserves will fund the remaining million, according to the release.
