CASPER, Wyo. — The National Historic Trails Interpretive Center is inviting young explorers to participate in free youth programs that will be offered at 10 a.m. each Saturday in October.

The Trails Center highlighted the October 16 program in particular.

“Explorers need to know how to chart their travels to return home safely,” the Trails Center said. “On October 16, Hands-on History Club will teach the skill of documenting and reading topographic maps through a creative activity of mapping playdough mountains.”

“The Trails Center’s exciting October lineup also features wagon packing, pioneer pastimes, and life on the trail.

The lineup of youth programs for the month is as follows:

  • October 9: Pioneer Games (30 minutes)
  • October 16: Hands on History Club (1 hour)
  • October 23: Life on the Trail (30 minutes)
  • October 30: Morning Movie – Meek’s Cutoff (2 hours)

“While Hands-on History Club classes are geared for children ages seven through eleven years old, all ages are welcome,” the Trails Center said. “Students must be accompanied by a chaperone. History Club is free, but reservations are appreciated and strongly encouraged.”
