CASPER, Wyo. — The Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Wyoming (BGCCW) will be hosting its statewide “American Dream Essay Contest” at noon Sunday, April 10 at the Ramkota Hotel.

School-level winners from across the state have been selected and statewide winners will be selected on Sunday. High school students and homeschooled students were invited to participate in the contest by writing an essay in regard to how a personal code of ethics has shaped their lives.

The winner of the statewide contest will receive a $5,000 prize, BGCCW said in a press release Wednesday. Second place wins $3,000, and the third-place prize is $2,000. Two honorable mention awards will each be given a $1,000 prize.

Students participating were sponsored by teachers at local schools and teachers will be recognized at the event on Sunday.

“The American Dream Essay Contest is centered on ‘Ten Principles to Live By,’ as highlighted in the book Cowboy Ethics, by bestselling author Jim Owens,” BGCCW said. “Every high school and homeschool student in grades 9–12 was invited to participate by reflecting on the Ten Principles (or their personal ethical beliefs) and writing an essay based on these guiding forces.”

The contest is sponsored by the Zimmerman Family Foundation, the Templeton Foundation, Hilltop National Bank, Larry and Margo Bean, Kevin and Julie Murphy, and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Wyoming.
